Drink Warm Water Before Bed and See What Happens

    “Are you okay?”

These were the exact words my cousin used when she saw me having a glass of water before bedtime instead of my usual cup of coffee.

She was right to be surprised. I’ve never really been a fan of drinking water before bed, or even first thing in the morning. If anything, coffee was the drink I looked forward to.

She was even more surprised it wasn’t just a regular cup of water but warm water.

This all started when my colleague heard me complaining of sleep troubles.

He simply said, “Have a glass of warm water every night before bed, and you will notice a difference.”

It’s been three months since I followed his advice and I want to share my experience so far.

    1. Sleep: My Nights Started Changing

I’m not saying that drinking warm water before bed magically made me sleep better. But my nights have noticeably become more peaceful since adopting this routine.

Initially, I was not fully convinced about the effectiveness of this new habit, but after sticking with it consistently, I began to notice a difference in my sleep.

At first, I had doubts about the effectiveness of this new habit, but as I kept on with it consistently, I began to notice a difference in my sleep.

Although there is limited evidence to prove that drinking warm water improved sleep, I personally felt that this simple routine was helping me sleep better.

All I can say is that since starting this routine, I have had fewer problems falling and staying asleep.

    2. Digestion: My Stomach Felt Less Uncomfortable

The primary reason I started drinking warm water before bed was because of my sleeping problem.

However, due to this newfound habit, there was one more change that I saw happening to my body.

After a few weeks of this routine, I noticed I wasn’t bloated after dinner anymore, and meals generally sat better with me.

Wondering about the reason behind this new change, I learned that temperature has some effects on the activity and movement of the digestive system.

The stomach and intestines use muscle contraction to move food and other contents through the tract, and liquids at various temperatures affect this process.

So I realized that this practice might have had some influence on my digestion and comfort level during the evenings.

    3. Skin: The Change I Didn’t Expect

My skin was the last thing I expected to benefit from this new habit.

I have always had dull-looking skin, and although I have tried many skin care products, nothing seemed to help me much.

Water was not something that I hoped would help either. However, within a month of drinking warm water every night, I began to see improvement in my skin.

People began to compliment my skin as well.

I found out that increasing water intake can modestly improve skin hydration.

    What I Learned

Sometimes, all you need is a simple routine that would improve your health—not expensive supplements or a bunch of pills.

While I’m not saying that drinking warm water will miraculously cure you from all illnesses, it is a simple health routine that I found helpful for my sleep, digestion and even skin.
